Gorilla Hole at the Recreation Center

Many of us know the household name in The Woodlands, The Gorilla Hole, but What is the Gorilla Hole? The Gorilla Hole has served as a social outlet entertaining kids in The Woodlands for years, 18 years that is! This signature program began August 27, 1993 and has been a part of The Woodlands culture ever since. The Teen Center (now The Woodlands Township Recreation Center) had its grand opening in March of 1993. The Gorilla Hole débuted as a new program in August 1993 that provided a DJ, lights, dancing, music and of course pizza for teens to enjoy on Friday nights from 8-11:30p.m. Teens had a place to let loose and have fun where their parents could be assured they were safe. In the past 13 years, The Gorilla Hole was reinvented into an event just for 5th and 6th graders as the Teen Center became what is now, The Woodlands Township Recreation Center, which serves as a program provider for all ages. Gorilla Hole is every first and third Friday of each month, 7-9:45p.m. It is $7 per child to get in and snacks and drinks are sold for $1 per item. Gorilla Hole T-shirts and glow sticks are also sold on a night to night basis. Two uniformed officers are always present at each event along with trained staff members to supervise and run the evening games. Gorilla Hole Goers must sign in upon entering and parents must come in the building to pick up children by 9:45p.m. Kids get to dance, play basketball, participate in themed games and socialize together; don’t miss out on the spring calendar of events!
