The Woodlands, TX -
The Texas Rush Soccer Club of The Woodlands, Texas, a nationally recognized professional soccer club for boys and girls staged its 2nd annual Texas College Winter Showcase at Carl Barton soccer complex, Conroe, TX over the weekend. College coaches travelled in from all four corners of the US to watch the talented teams on display.
The showcase entertained international professional academy teams such as Tigres de la Universitad de Nuevo León from Monterrey, Mexico along with the Houston Dynamo and Texas Rush USSDA teams. San Jacinto (NJCAA) was also present to represent the Junior College section of collegiate soccer. San Jacinto was ranked #8 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and #11 by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) last season (fall 2010).
Feedback from some of the college coaches that attended…….
Damon Rensing, Michigan State (Big Ten Conference, Sweet 16 NCAA Div. I) – “I found the showcase to be very productive and worthwhile. The facilities were all in one location and the fields were in great shape. The location in relation to the airport, fields, and hotel was very accessible. The Texas Rush did a great job of putting a quality showcase together despite some adverse weather conditions leading up to the event. The combination of USSF Academy, Jr. College, local, national, and international (Tigres) teams made for a competitive and enjoyable event. The hospitality the Texas Rush showed the college coaches were first class. Michigan State University will be back next year!”
Isang Jacob, Penn State (Big Ten Conference, Sweet 16 NCAA Div. I) – “I just want to thank you and Don for the great work on the showcase this past weekend. This was my second year and you continue to raise the bar for college colleges in terms of teams and taking care of the college coaches in attendance. With the tough weather uncertainties you made a decision to go ahead and hold the tournament and did a fantastic job of bringing quality teams to the showcase at the last minute. I was able to identify some players that can help our team in the near future. I look forward to see you guys again next year. Once again, thank you for all you do for the game.”
Dan King, University of Missouri - St. Louis (Great Lakes Valley Conference, NCAA Div. II) – “I would like to thank the entire Texas Rush staff for putting on a first class showcase. I am a D2 coach from St. Louis and found the games to be very enjoyable and great quality. I personally made some great new contacts that will help my program in the future. The fields were very close to the hotel, and the soccer complex was excellent. I look forward to coming to this showcase next year.”
Fred Schlichting, University of Missouri – Kansas City (The Summit League, NCAA Div. I) - “The Texas College Winter Showcase proved to be an exceptional event hosted by a Rush club who clearly understands the needs of a college coach on the recruiting trail. The Rush’s assistance with travel and attention to hospitality were only surpassed by the level of play on the fields.”
Russell Payne, West Point (Patriot League, NCAA Div. I) – “The showcase was once again a top class event. High quality teams (players), great playing surfaces, thoughtful amenities, information packets, and first rate hospitality for the college coaches”
Nicholas Deren, Detroit Mercy (Horizon League, NCAA Div. I) - "This showcase helped me identify some quality talent in areas of the country I don’t get to that often. I want to thank the Texas Rush for putting on such a quality showcase."
David Santesteban, San Jacinto College - “We were very happy to get the chance to play against the Houston Rush Academy 18’s since our own games were canceled that weekend. It ended up being a great day. Both teams played well and I was very happy to get another recruiting opportunity with the Rush team. I’ve been eyeing some players for a while and I think I know which one’s I’d like to make some concrete offers to. We were also very fortunate to still have many other college coaches watching our game that day which was great exposure for our program. I received many calls the following day with several scholarship offers to our players. I really want to thank Don & Dave again for their invitation and hospitality. I look forward to continuing this relationship for years to come.”
