THE WOODLANDS, TX (August 31, 2009) – Global interest in The Woodlands continues to grow as journalists from Germany and the United Kingdom visited The Woodlands Town Center as part of a five-day media tour focusing on meeting and convention destinations in the greater Houston area.
The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau and members of the business community teamed up to host Dirk Mewis, editor-in-chief of Tagungs Wirtschaft (circulation 20,482), a German trade magazine highlighting trends, destinations and technologies for meeting and event professionals, and journalist Kunal Dutta from the United Kingdom’s Conference & Incentive Travel publications (circulation of 18,476).
During their stay at The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center, Mewis and Dutta viewed meeting and event space in the area and toured local attractions and venues. The writers were also welcomed with a lavish dinner, provided by Jasper’s in Market Street.
With past mentions in national and regional publications, Market Street and its tenants have seen the benefits to hosting travel writers.
"People look towards travel writers to provide them with honest information about the places they have visited,” says Market Street Activity Coordinator Jenny Taylor. “Over the years, we’ve had seen great success with coverage from both domestic and international writers.”
Earlier this year, The Woodlands hosted a group of travel writers from Brazil and Argentina.
“Positive news coverage continues to play a key role in promoting The Woodlands as business and leisure destination,” says Nick Wolda, president of The Woodlands Visitors & Convention Bureau.
Records at the Visitors Service Centers confirm the assistance of over 40,500 visitors from over 341 different zip codes, 50 states and 46 countries.
